The First Annual

Mycelium Drag Show

On January 17th, we’re hosting our very first drag show! To make this happen, we need community support. Your donations go towards renting a space, procuring a short-term liquor license, getting insurance for the event, paying community partners, and getting money to the queer folks who are working and werking.

Any donation over $20 gets you a free ticket to the event (ages 18+). Feel free to donate in multiples of $20 for multiple tickets. You’ll receive email confirmation of your donation, and we’ll reach out in the month before the event to give you alllllll the details.

More info will be announced as we reach out to partners, drag royalty, and small businesses in the area. Please note: we are currently not disclosing the location of the event publicly, but it is within a mile of downtown Elkins <3

Why give?

  • TO ATTEND AN EPIC APPALACHIAN DRAG EXTRAVAGANZA!

  • To $upport your local queer community in art and culture making.

  • To help more DIY performance art happen in our small town!

  • To boost the local economy! We'll be featuring food, services, art, and retail from all our favorite small biz fam!

  • To vote for a world where people can be their authentic selves in rural Appalachia!

  • To make this really fun, bombastic, sparkly, spectral, chromatic, beautiful thing happen in the darkest and grayest part of winter!

 FAQs

  • When you donate, you'll receive a receipt for you donation. Roughly a month before the event, you'll receive an email with everything you need to know about the event. Keep an eye on our social media and substack for details on our progress along the way!

  • Unfortunately, no. This event is ages 18+ with no exceptions. We are expecting some degree of pushback from anti-queer bigots, and want this first event to prioritize freedom of queer expression without being accused of "grooming" or sexualizing children. We're hoping to grow our drag programming to include shows for all ages in 2025.

  • For two reasons! First, we just don't know the whole scope of the project until we get in the weeds with it. In order to make this happen with no grant funding, we need to crowdsource ahead of knowing every detail. Secondly, some details of this event are staying intentionally private until closer to the show date. We're hoping this allows for less time for coordinated protesting (*eye roll*) against the event.

  • We're Mycelium, an art supply shop and community space located in Downtown Elkins, West Virginia. We're queer owned and operated, and believe in creating safe, accountable communities for all people. WE LOVE YOU!
